Terberg Special Vehicles is a division of the Terberg company, which was founded over 140 years ago and is still a family-owned business incorporated in The Netherlands, in Benschop.

With almost 40 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing of terminal, yard and RoRo-tractors for ports, industry, logistics, railroad, airports and tunnel construction, Terberg Special Vehicles is a market leader in Europe and a main player worldwide.   • Container terminals

Terberg has developed a range of vehicles suitable for use in container terminals.  The Yard tractor is used in most cases for transporting containers from quay cranes to storage locations.  Terberg also provides solutions for multi-trailer trains from 4 to 10 TEU.  Especially for areas where winters are more severe, Terberg also provides tractors with four-wheel drive.  Even if the surface is icy, the safe transport of containers in the terminal can be continued.

Over the years Terberg has secured a leading position in the RoRo-tractor market.  The robust and well-designed tractors have been used in ports around the world for many years.  Mostly in ports in Europe and Africa where many goods are transported via RoRo-ships.  Regardless of load weights, ramps and tractor connections, Terberg succeeds each time in finding the right solution for the safe transport of valuable cargo.

The distinctiveness of the Terberg RoRo-tractors is the continuous all-wheel drive and the unprecedented Ergoturn® system for the 180° swivel seat console.  The Ergoturn® system ensures that the driver, in all positions, is positioned near the side window of the cab.  He has a perfect view of his work in an ergonomic and therefore pleasant posture

Terberg offers many options for solving transportation matters in inland and rail terminals.  The Yard Tractor is used for transporting containers of material handlers to storage locations.  Terberg also offers solutions for pulling multi-trailer trains of 4 to 10 TEU.  With the BC182 Terberg has the most ideal solution for the transportation of swap bodies in the terminal.

Initially, transport companies began using used tractors from the port for an efficient solution for preloading trailers at the distribution centres.  It was proven that by using a terminal tractor efficiency at the terminal increased significantly.  Terberg YT tractors offer the perfect solution.  They are fast, robust and very reasonably priced.

With the BC182 Terberg have the most ideal solution for the transport of swap bodies in the terminal.  In case the (optional) 5th wheel lifting frame is provided, both swap bodies and trailers can be transported by the same swap body carrier.  Due to the low entry and easy access to the loading platform this vehicle greatly increases the efficiency at the terminal.

In some cases more trailers than swap bodies are moved in a terminal.  The vehicle used must be optimised for moving the trailers.  The liftable trailer can be mounted to move swap bodies if necessary.

>INDUSTRY

Terberg tractors are also widely used in various types of industry.  Consider the chemical industry, car manufacturers, beverage producers, but Terberg tractors have already proven their services in many other industries as well.  The capacity to lift heavy loads with the 5th wheel and high permissible gross combination weights make both the YT and RT tractors ideal for transporting (end) products in the industry.  The supply of materials for production, the removal of intermediates and finished products, nothing is too big or too heavy for a Terberg tractor.

Due to the growing focus on the environment, more and more of our waste is transported to locations where maximum separation of the different residual fractions is performed.  All these materials must be transported further for processing into new products.  Terberg tractors and chassis are often used at these processing locations.  They transport, for example, Open Top containers or ACTS containers which are supplied by rail or transported to other locations.  Residues that really cannot be reused can be driven to the landfill and dumped with a fieldworthy Terberg vehicle.

Over the years Terberg has built a number of tractors for moving railway wagons.  The easiest option is a push plate in front of the tractor which can also be used for moving trailers.  The track should then be placed in an asphalt site for transposing the traction of the tyres to the road.  Recently Terberg and Zagro introduced the RR222 6x4 for the transport of railway wagons at a railway yard.  This vehicle can efficiently move wagons with a total weight of 2,000 tons.  Because of the special railway wheelset this vehicle can also do its job if the rails are not integrated into the road.

>(TUNNEL) CONSTRUCTION

In recent years Terberg tractors have been used more and more for tunneling projects around the world.  For the construction of tunnels, a lot of material has to be supplied and discharged through a narrow passage.  Tunnel tubes are often too narrow for heavy tractors to turn.  Because of the clever swivel seat construction in Terberg tractors the distance can also be driven ergonomically in opposite directions.  Add to this the high permissible gross combination weight and good visibility, and it becomes clear that the Terberg tractors are ideal for tunneling.

>AIRPORTS

Terberg offers many options for solving transportation problems at larger airports.  The Yard tractor is most commonly used for transporting cargo generally to cargo aircarft.  Because of the greater distances at these airports, the powerful engine and ergonomic layout of the Terberg tractor are a major advantage.  For these purposes, the 5th wheel is replaced by a ballast block allowing the tractor to pull multi-trailer trains with cargo.  Ramps in tunnels, under the tracks, do not represent any problem for the powerful engines.

The Terberg tractors are also used at airports to transport de-icing fluid containers to remote places on the starting and landing strips.

The Terberg YT 182/222 (DT) series Yard tractors are designed for moving trailers in distribution centres, tansport companies, container terminals and airports.  The Gross Combination Weight (GCW) allowed can go up to 115 tons.  The lifting capacity of the 5th wheel can be as much as 36 tons.  The spacious cab with perfect visibiliy combined with inboard door presents an ideal ergonomic 4x2 workhorse.

The Terberg TT series Terminal tractors are designed as a solution for companies where rear wheel drive only is sufficient, but a 180° swiveling seat console is a must.  The TT terminal tractors offer the new technology from the RT series, the spacious cabin with the convenient rear sliding door and the swift agility of the YT tractors.

RoRo tractors

The all-new Terberg RT 223/283/323 RoRo tractors are designed for RoRo operations in ports.  The 4x4, the Ergoturn® 180° swiveling seat and the spacious cabin make this tractor ideal for work in RoRo ships.  Because of its powerful driveline, this type of tractor is often also used for heavy work under severe conditions in the industry.

The Terberg RT 382 is designed for extremely heavy work.  Its 5th wheel lifting capacity of 45 ton, the very heavy chassis and power train design makes the RT 382 ideal for work in the steel industry, in extremely heavy RopRo operations or for pulling MTS trailer trains.  The maximum G.C.W. may under certain conditions have a limit up to as much as 375 ton.

The solution for higher capacity demands on ramps.  With the development of the Safeneck® the safe working capacity of a RoRo tractor on ramps can be increased considerably.  It is the answer to the demand in the market for a system to handle heavier loads on vessel ramps in a safe way.

The Terberg RR222 is a joint development with ZAGRO from Germany.  Two specialists who have joined forces to create the ultimate railroad vehicle.  Significant advantages are the good availability of components in the after market, the tight turning circle on the road and the towing capacity that allows wagons with a G.C.W. of up to 2,000 tons to be pulled.
