New owners for PD Ports
PD Ports, the leading UK ports & logistics business based in Middlesbrough, has today confirmed that it is under new ownership, following the sale of 100% of its equity to Canadian-based Brookfield Asset Management (“Brookfield”).
The sale, which was completed today, was part of a broader transaction with Babcock & Brown Infrastructure (“BBI”) in which Brookfield, as the cornerstone investor, led a recapitalisation of BBI. Brookfield has formed a new holding company Brookfield Ports (UK) Ltd to complete the purchase of PD Ports. BBI was the previous owner of PD Ports from early 2006 until today. David Robinson, PD Ports’ Group Chief Executive Officer said: “I am pleased to confirm that PD Ports is now under the new ownership of Brookfield. This is very positive news and will enable PD Ports to move forward and focus on growing our business. As a result of the sale, PD Ports has a new financial structure, which will provide a stable platform to support our future growth and development. “We very much look forward to working with Brookfield and welcome the positive influence it will have over the longer term ambitions of PD Ports. “The PD Ports’ management team and staff remain fully committed to delivering value to our customers and stakeholders, whilst progressing with our business strategy,” concluded Robinson. Sam Pollock, Brookfield’s Senior Managing Partner, Infrastructure, said: “We are very pleased that the transaction with Babcock and Brown brings PD Ports into our portfolio of leading infrastructure, renewable power and real estate assets and businesses. As long-term, value-oriented investors with a growing global footprint, our investment in PD Ports represents our first foray into ports, a key infrastructure sector with attractive investment characteristics aligned with our other businesses, including stable and predictable cash flows, high quality, long-life assets and a well-established customer base.”
Intermodal transportation: The next wave?
Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland).
However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
