Navis to sponsor free training seminar in Vietnam to help terminals manage growth
Navis, part of Zebra Enterprise Solutions at Zebra Technologies (NASDAQ: ZBRA) and the world’s first company to automate marine terminal operating systems (TOS), will sponsor a free training seminar today and tomorrow in Ho Chi Minh City for existing and prospective customers.
The purpose of the training is to introduce customers in this emerging market to advanced terminal operating systems and how they are generally used to manage operations. Additionally, customers will learn why the Navis™ SPARCS TOS is the industry gold standard and how it specifically supports terminals’ bottom line.
What: Training Seminar (Free)Vietnam is the region's second fastest growing economy with an average annual growth rate of 7.1% since 2000. Ho Chi Minh City, the economic centre of Vietnam, is currently served by various port and terminal facilities along the Saigon River. New development is taking place in the deeper water provided by the Cai Mep, Thi Vai and Hiep Phuoc regions east of Ho Chi Minh City. Many of the attendees representing terminal personnel in Ho Chi Minh City are new to the maritime industry or new to advanced terminal operating systems. The training is being sponsored by Navis to help existing customers complete some preliminary training for new staff as well as help prospective customers and users learn and understand the power and advantages of the Navis tools. Who: 20 participants representing 7 organizations will attend, which include Navis customers from Vietnam International Container Terminal (VICT) and Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT). Vietnam is in a unique position with several new marine terminals coming on line in a short period of time. More than six terminals are expected to open or upgrade facilities within two years. In four years, more than 12 new or upgraded terminals are expected to be operational. There is a local need to help “on-board” many new terminal operations and IT staff. Navis has the deep domain expertise and the resources to help with this process. When: Tuesday and WednesdayNovember 25-26, 2008 Where: Lac Viet Computing Corporation Headquarters Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Intermodal transportation: The next wave?
Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland).
However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
