Nov 08, 2007 Tideworks Technology holds customer conference event Event Features a Mix of Collaborative Workshops, Industry Speakers, and Tideworks’ Latest Innovations

SEATTLE – Tideworks Technology®, Inc., a leading provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions for terminal operators, hosted representatives from its broad customer base, September 13-14, 2007, at its inaugural customer conference event.

The event, staged at the World Trade Center on the Seattle waterfront, with activities held at various locations around the Puget Sound area, featured best-practice, collaborative-environment training and workshops, complimentary, valuable information about Tideworks’ existing and latest products, industry-leading speakers on a variety of topics, and the chance to enjoy a first-class Seattle experience for attendees from around the world. Guests of the event came from as far away as Chile and the Philippines.

“This conference provided the perfect opportunity for us to come together with our clients and not only showcase our city and headquarters, but also encourage a focused look at all that Tideworks offers,” said Michael Schwank, president, Tideworks Technology. “It allowed us to demonstrate our appreciation for our customers, build good will, and offer a collaborative exchange that will help us hone our vision of the future.”

Attendees of the conference were also treated to presentations from top-notch industry speakers on diverse subjects relevant to their business. Todd C. Owen, executive director, Cargo and Conveyance Security, Office of Field Operations, United States Customs and Border Protection (US CBP), spoke to delegates on the topic of “Cargo Security Initiatives – What’s on the Horizon?” providing valuable insight into the operations of US CBP. Guest speaker Carlos Urriola-Tam, vice president and general manager, Manzanillo International Terminal, provided the audience an insider’s look into “Business Opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean.” On day two of the conference, Mark Oetken, regional sales manager, Psion Teklogix, offered important information on the “Latest Innovations in Wireless Computing.” Other guest speakers included Bill DeWitt, corporate security director, Carrix, Inc., and John Cushing, president, eModal.

Post-event feedback to the conference indicates all expectations were exceeded. Conference content, entertainment, and overall impression of the event were consistently rated with top marks, and a significant majority of the attendees stated their likelihood of returning to another Tideworks conference was “high.”  Due to the overwhelming demand for a repeat performance, Tideworks plans to make this a bi-annual event.

Conference attendee Steven Armstrong, an applications specialist for Fraser Surrey Docks in Surrey, B.C., Canada, offered, “I know it has been said many times already, but thank you again to everyone at Tideworks for hosting such a well-planned and enjoyable event. …a great deal was learned.”

Intermodal transportation: The next wave?Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland). However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
