New robot on the market can improve port security
Remotec Inc. have supplied a new remotely-operated robot to the LAPD, designed for explosive ordnance disposal, hazardous material response and port security.
The Caterpillar TL1255 Telehandler can lift 12,000 pounds and has a forward reach of more than 40 feet, according to a press release. The robot has an upward reach of 50 feet and can be remotely operated from up to a mile away. Remotec, a Northrop Grumman Corp subsidiary based in Clinton, Tennessee, and its partner Autonomous Solutions Inc., said Wednesday they delivered a new robot to the Los Angeles Police Department, which will allow “officers to perform more missions more safely.” The Telehandler is Remotec’s first product in a new line of construction-grade equipment.
Intermodal transportation: The next wave?
Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland).
However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
