Feb 04, 2010 Yemen LNG soon to be transported to US The first shipment of Yemen Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) is expected to be transported to the USA soon. The shipment will be sent from Balhaf harbour, Shabwa province, to Boston harbour, USA, later this month.

Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh launched the first shipment of gas to international markets in Asia, Korea and the two Americas back in November, last year.

The project, after 15 of construction, will generate US $30-50 billion for Yemen over 25 years.

The Yemen LNG project is the largest and most important investment ever made in Yemen, with an investment of around US $4.5 billion.

It consists of supplying gas from Block 18, in the Marib region in central Yemen, through a 320 kilometres of specialised pipeline to the LNG plant at the port of Balhaf on the Arab Sea, southeast Yemen.

The project shareholders are TOTAL (Project Leader) (39.62%), Yemen Gas Company (16.73%), Hunt Oil Company (17.22%), SK Energy Co., Ltd. (9.55%), Korea Gas Corporation – KOGAS (6.00%), the General Authority for Social Security and Pensions of Yemen (5.00%) and Hyundai Corporation (5.88%)

Intermodal transportation: The next wave?Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland). However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
