Noble Denton appoints renewables group managing director
Noble Denton, the leading global offshore engineering and marine services company, today announces the appointment of Ian Bonnon as group managing director, renewables.
Mr Bonnon, will develop the renewables business globally and will report directly to group managing director, John Wishart. This strategically important role reflects Noble Denton’s intention to secure significant worldwide market share in the provision of engineering, consultancy and project management services to the renewables industry.
Over the last ten years, Mr Bonnon has led the development of the UK renewables business within Noble Denton and this new role underlines the company’s commitment to this emerging sector. Noble Denton will continue to invest in this area, as well as drawing on its workforce’s considerable transferrable experience from the offshore oil and gas sector. Noble Denton’s renewables expertise has already attracted the company’s largest ever contract award - providing project management services on the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm project worth in the region of £19.5 million. Mr Wishart said: “Noble Denton is already established as a leading provider to the global offshore renewables industry. We have an extremely detailed understanding of this sector and are in a unique position to offer clients the right blend of skills, personnel and experience. “As part of the global business team, Ian will use his considerable expertise and leadership skills to further expand our worldwide market presence. In his new role, Ian will both lead our business development initiatives and focus on leveraging the combined Germanischer Lloyd and Noble Denton skill set in the renewables field.” Mr Bonnon has more than 28 years’ experience in the oil and gas, renewable energy, marine and subsea cable industries. He joined BOMEL in 1998 as engineering manager and in 2003 he was appointed to the position of director of engineering and projects. In 2004, following the acquisition of BOMEL by Noble Denton, he was appointed as managing director of BOMEL. In 2008, Mr Bonnon was appointed to the role of Europe southern operations director in Noble Denton. “The offshore renewables sector has worldwide significance, and I relish the opportunity to work with the exceptional team here at Noble Denton to consolidate and develop our already well-established presence in this crucial arena,” said Mr Bonnon.
Intermodal transportation: The next wave?
Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland).
However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
