Apr 14, 2008 Navis World 2008 to Celebrate 20 Years of Innovation

Global Conference Will Explore Latest Developments in Marine Terminal, Distribution Center and Overall Supply Chain Operations

OAKLAND, Calif.--Navis, a Zebra Technologies company (NASDAQ:ZBRA) and the world’s first company to automate marine terminal operating systems (TOS), will celebrate 20 years of innovation at Navis World 2008, the company’s seventh biennial user conference, April 20-23, at the historic Palace Hotel in San Francisco. More than 400 conferees have signed up to attend Navis World 2008, which includes 227 customers.

The premier event for Navis customers from around the globe, Navis World 2008 will mark the formal debut of Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies which includes Navis, proveo, and WhereNet. Additionally, Navis will launch Navis™ SPARCS N4 Live View and other SPARCS N4 module enhancements.

“Our customers and partners come to Navis World to learn about our new product innovations, but more importantly, they come to network with their peers and discuss the innovations that will determine the future of our industry and the advancement of the global supply chain,” said John Dillon, General Manager, Zebra Enterprise Solutions. “They will get a fresh look at some of the ideas and innovations that will have a major impact on their businesses.”

Navis World 2008 will feature an agenda with four interrelated tracks:

  • Marine Terminal Operations & Technologies
  • Marine Terminal Automation
  • Distribution and Manufacturing Solutions
  • Integration, Visibility and Security

 

Nearly 60 sessions are planned, featuring Navis executives and 45 guest speakers, including a keynote address by Dillon, and Dr. Gustaaf De Monie, Senior Director of the Policy Research Corporation. Also several customers will present case studies, and industry analysts will present industry trends and supply chain projections. Panel discussions will bring together leaders from the intermodal and crane automation communities to examine best practices for managing growth and integration with the marine terminals. Navis presentations will include special sessions on SPARCS N4, PrimeRoute, ExpertDecking, Analytics and Monitor.

Navis World Technology Pavilion

Between sessions, Navis World 2008 conferees can explore the latest advances in terminal and logistics technologies in the sold-out Navis World Technology Pavilion. Among the Navis partners and vendors displaying their wares will be Motorola, LXE, Psion Teklogix, KoneCranes, Sattel, Gottwald, ABB Crane Systems, TMEIC-GE Automation Systems, Kalmar, APS Technology, Johnson Controls, Mark-It Services, Asia Vision Technologies and Palazzolo and Associates.

A Grand Celebration

The user conference will culminate with the Navis 20th Anniversary and Customer Appreciation Celebration, a banquet and casino night to be held in the historic Julia Morgan Ballroom of the Palace Hotel.

Intermodal transportation: The next wave?Holidays are almost over, for those lucky enough to go on vacation. I spent my time away from the sea, and well above sea level. Just for reassurance. As you might know, the majority of Dutch grounds are below sea level (about 65%), and we keep dry feet by pumping water. Without that, we would build our sandcastle around "Amersfoort at the Sea" (a city some 80km inland). However, spending time in the Alps, some 800m above sea level, my rectangular box driven mind did not come to a complete standstill, wondering about hinterland transportation.
